Atovio's existing design did't live up to it's market-leading image.

Atovio makes India's highest-selling wearable-air purifiers - ones that are worn around the neck with a lanyard. Their existing products felt cheap and didn't live up to their market leading image.

I was brought on to redesign the product and develop a design language that could scale to future products. The key challenge I realized was to design the product in a way that felt muted, something that blends in with the users' attire, avoiding any medical notions.

I took inspiration from dew drops - something that relates well to the notions of purity & freshness.

I started toying with the notion of distilling what pure air meant in words and associations and then relating them to physical phenomena and imagery.

The design is based on dew drops - a manifestation of natures most honest form & something that relates to fresh morning air

Designed to optimise internal stack-up.

The design was tweaked to accommodate the internals as well keeping the product compact. For wearable tech in this category, being able to blend in with a person's attire matters as it affects its perception.

Looping the lanyard through they eyelets rather than hooking for a better & seamless fit on the body.

Since we were working with an existing set of internal components, much of the technicalities came from the integration of a stainless steel plate. For the product to work, the PCB should have direct contact with the lanyard that goes around the neck, carrying ions from the body.

I also suggested an alternate method of looping the lanyard through the eyelets of the plate for better stability while wearing, which also pointed the ionizer right towards the users' nose.

Hooking the lanyard caused the product to tilt forward.

Looping the lanyard through helps the device sit upright.

Iterating through mockups to arrive at the final design.
