Smart Tags positioned as accessories to ditch the "security device" notion

Senti is an upcoming brand that aims to produce tech products for the modern Indian customers, rooted in emotion, connection & sentiment. I was brought onto the project from the very beginning, contributing towards the brand, strategizing which audiences to target the smart tag lineup towards, the physical design of the smart tags, directing the packaging lineup and more.

From the beginning, we wanted our design to ditch the "security device" notion and adopt an accessory driven approach, following consumption trends among the Indian youth who prefer loud, energetic & expressive objects that reflect their personality.

Since smart tags are "tagged" to our belongings, it felt natural to position the product as a charm or a trinket that you'd flaunt.

Forms for a range of 3 products, inspired by everyday things.

The tags come in a range of 3 - Lite, Pro & Ultra, with the first one running on a CR2032 coin cell and limited range whereas the other two come with a rechargeable Type-C internal battery and better range.

Starting with the Lite tag, the smallest out of the three, the design takes inspiration from a hex nut - something that signals safe and reliable, and a fun little shape to attach small items to. The Pro tag takes inspiration from the silhouette of a house and the Ultra tag takes after a luggage tag - all three tied together with a cohesive, memorable and approachable language.

Since the approach centered around accessorising the tags, the colours chosen were bright and playful which also aid in easier spotting.

The most amount of time spent in development came from optimising the internal architecture of the product, maintaining the design intent throughout. Key problems I tackled involved internal stack issues that cause charging port misalignment, suggesting improvements in PCB layouts and more.
